The History Place has become a popular place
for
people and groups to hold meetings, weddings, banquets, parties and
conferences.
The Les A. Ewen Auditorium seats 200 theater style and 150
comfortably at round tables. There is also a classroom for smaller
groups. The Society publishes a history journal, The Researcher, a bi-monthly newsletter, "The History Place Newsletter" and various books related to Carteret County. The historical society has received numerous awards for its outstanding publications and programs including The Claude Hunter Moore Journal Award, D.T. Smithwick News Article Award, Willie Parker History Book Award and the Malcolm Fowler Outstanding Historical Society Award. The Carteret County Historical Society was founded in 1971 as The Carteret County Historical Research Association. The Society established the Carteret County Museum of History and Art in 1985, and moved to downtown Morehead City in 2001. The Society and Museum programs are free and open to the public. The society is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization and presently has a membership of 1,000 people. |
