Award winning carved decoys from the Core Sound Decoy Carvers Guild
Local Confederate Spy Emeline Pigott was arrested in 1865 from this carriage carrying 30 pounds of contraband under her skirts

Quilt Exhibit

The History Place has a fascinating variety of family quilts. On display is also the Sesquicentennial quilt composed of quilt patches from Carteret County families, businesses and organizations - each telling a part of Carteret County’s rich past.

This Civil War Quilt is from Kinston where it was buried at the end of the Civil War to keep it from being stolen by Union Soldiers.  There are still a few water stains to be seen where rain water had gotten to it.  The quilt has never been washed and is as bright today as it must have been in the 1860's
